Film Screenings and After Talks
Ⓒ Joud Toamah
Frames of Resistance is a series of film screenings that highlights the important contributions of Arab film producers, particularly their gendered perspectives on the Palestinian question. This year’s program makes a vital connection to Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza and Lebanon, amplifying voices that shed light on Israeli colonization, violence, and the resilience of Palestinian men, women, and children.
Through a curated selection of films that span various genres, themes, and cultural contexts, Frames of Resistance reveals the depth and variety of the "Arab cinematic gaze," challenging dominant Western narratives and stereotypes surrounding Palestinian life and the broader Arab experience. The films presented aim to provide a richer, more nuanced understanding of the complexities faced by Palestinian communities, thereby fostering constructive dialogue about their fight for freedom.
Each screening will be accompanied by discussions with filmmakers, scholars, and activists, who will delve into the cinematic, societal and political impact of these works. These conversations will explore how films shape and reflect discourse about Palestine and Palestinian lives.
This film series is presented by VUB Crosstalks, the VUB Fatima Mernissi Chair, VUB Palestine Solidarity Network, United Screens for Palestine and Cinema RITCS.
