16-06-2016 - Urban Vibes - Summer of Photography Opening Debate
Bozar, Room M1, Ravensteinstraat 23, 1000 Brussels
In issue #123 of the magazine Adbusters the architect Bill Beard pleads for a return of the muses in what he calls ‘this flat, dystopian landscape’. Without them urban citizens are merely oxygen burners and clock watchers. ‘Our culture emphasizes “building wealth,” not “building place” – self-service over community life. Pragmatics, efficiency, metrics – Metropolis. Each generally soul-killing.’ Yet, urban development in general and public spaces in particular can allow (or not) social dynamism.
For this interaction VUB Crosstalks & BOZAR Agora engage an interdisciplinary mix of artists, researchers, architects, curators, reporters and authorities in the room and onstage.
